VMLTC Open Day: Saturday 20th April

Vicars Moor will be hosting our annual Community Open Day on Saturday 20 April. This is always a great social day for our members and also the chance for you to bring guests you think may be interested in the tennis or social side of the club.

The bar will be open all afternoon and there will be a BBQ from lunchtime onwards. Club sponsors ThomasJames will also be hosting a drinks bar.

We have a lot planned for the day this year! We are being joined by a charity called Bright Ideas for Tennis - they helped us set up a tennis programme we now run for a local SEN school called Fern House. They will be bringing some former GB Davis Cup pro players who will run some specific master class sessions.  Priority access will be given to our members to sign up for the groups below. There is a £5 charge to enter and sign up links will be send out shortly - all proceeds from this will go to support both our SEN project with Fern House school and a local charity.

  • 1pm to 2pm Rusty Racket / Improver group (capped at 24 adults first come first served)
  • 2pm to 2.45pm 11 to 16 years olds (capped at 16 players)
  • 2.45pm to 3.30pm - mini kids age 5 to 10 years old (capped at 27 children)

The Vicars Moor coaching team will also be running free taster session for guests on the day:

  • 2pm to 2.30pm - juniors ages 8 +
  • 2.30pm to 3pm - Munchkins and ages 5-7 years
  • 3pm to 3.30pm family cardio tennis (everyone invited to join in with this)

At 3.30pm there will be a fastest serve competition being run, and also a Walking Tennis taster session.

From 4pm to 5pm the Davis Cup players will run a squad for team tennis players

And then to finish the day at 5pm there will be an exhibition match from the former Davius Cup pro players - potentially against two top team players from Vicars Moor!

During the day we have also invited the local charity Re-Engage to the club who work with lonely elderly people. We are also supporting Bright Ideas For Tennis in their Africa Appeal - they are supporting a tennis academy in Zimbabwe by supplying rackets, balls, shoes and tennis clothing. If anyone has any old tennis clothing they would be willing to donate please can you bring this on the day - they are particularly looking for equipment / clothing / shoes / balls for the 6 to 14 year age bracket.

We hope as many of you as possible will join us on the 20 April.  By then you will hopefully also see our newly relaid bottom 3 courts as well as renovated practice board and Mini tennis court.
