Welcome to Victoria Avenue Lawn Tennis Club.

I feel very lucky to be Chairman of this club and love seeing all 7 tennis courts busy with positive energy and laughter on a sunny day. It’s a beautiful game tennis and although we are seeing so many other clubs turning to the shorter noisier game we as a club would rather find a different route by moving to a bit more of a multi sport culture with our young ones that will support and nurture our talented tennis players having fun as well as laying the foundation for a lifetime of physical activity.

I’m lucky to have a very strong energised committee that sees the opportunity and wants to make a difference.

Our goal is to create a safe, welcoming environment where families, especially children, can have fun and stay active.

In these tough times, we believe in the power of community, laughter, and play. We’re here not just as a tennis club, but as a place where families can come together and enjoy brighter moments.

Our club is steeped in history and it goes without saying that our club would not run successfully without the enormous amount of time and energy that all our volunteers contribute. This was demonstrated at our Darren Toop competition last week where we had a record number of tournament entries. We watched young competitive talented tennis matches while being blessed with beautiful weather. Also enjoying the daily bonus of freshly made cakes arriving from our lovely members.

We now have three singles Box Leagues up and running so our members can play competitive singles matches as well as a youth singles box league to support our up and coming junior members with the necessary in house matchplay preparing them for both county and national competitions.

We have two national youth teams and will be helping the young players that are committed to our club.

Our Captains club day is set for 10th May. Club tournament will take place in June with Parent and Child competition early July.

We have 6 teams currently running in leagues which includes two men’s teams, two mixed teams, one men’s vets team and a ladies team with an over 60 men’s team starting up in the Autumn.

Special mention to Gary Toop who will be starting his 30th consecutive year with us. Such an experienced coach who has taken children through to national top 10 year after year with so many of them now coaching all around the world.

Our club is diverse and we welcome everyone - from complete beginners through to high-level competitive players.
