Knockout matches lead straight to Club Championship final

While the US Open was serving up plenty of tennis action, players at Walmley were blazing a trail closer to home to reach the final of our Adult Club Championships 2020.

More players at all levels have picked up their racket this season to take part in our fun annual event with a distinctly competitive edge.

Those making it through earlier rounds have their sights set on being crowned the winners of our Men’s Singles, Ladies’ Singles, Men’s Doubles, Ladies’ Doubles, and Mixed Doubles titles.

The players are all set for the finals tomorrow (Sunday 22 September) - and the good weather is booked!

The day will begin with an atmosphere-building US Open-themed social tennis playing event, arranged for club members not competing in the finals’ matches which follow.

It’ll be a fitting finale for a lockdown summer where tennis has been a smash hit nationwide. The number of people playing tennis has risen sharply. Public court bookings are up almost 400% on a year earlier, according to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). Tennis clubs like ours have also been busier and welcomed a striking number of new members.

Tennis was one of the first sports to be permitted after restrictions eased because it can be played within social distancing rules and with Covid-secure hygiene measures in place, on and around the court.

Fancy giving it a shot? Please get in touch to find out more about playing tennis at our club, whatever your age. We have sessions for complete beginners, players coming back to tennis and regular players.
