Hot competition for Adult finals day

The competition was as hot as the weekend weather as the successful Juniors’ event was followed by some close, high quality matches in the Adult Championships.

Spare a thought for Jackie Latham who was effectively on court under a sapping sun for around 5 hours taking part in three finals, winning two.

Jackie took the ladies’ singles title and also the mixed doubles, which she won with husband Jim. The ladies’ doubles champions were Moira Doran and Maz Dowell.

In the men’s competitions Jon Lewis and Joe Nolan won the doubles, while Joe Nolan won the singles in a closely fought match against Ross Etherington.

Finals day had ‘warmed up’ in the morning with a well-attended ‘US Open’ social tournament, for club members who were not competing in the main event, with Mick Doran and Julie Sheridan taking the honours.
