Wetherby Men's Leeds League First Team Gain Promotion

The Wetherby A Leeds mens first team achieved an unlikely promotion this season after a late burst of form saw them secure the runners up spot.

In a competitive section there were no easy matches and most teams were able to beat each other as the closeness of the table confirms.

Wetherby used thirteen players in their campaign and a big thanks to all who played their part in securing promotion. Bradley Triffitt was our leading points scorer and also played every match.

Bradley managed to finish runner up in the overall division player stats and there are some very talented opponents in the above list indeed.

Marc Bickers, Alastair Southworth, Andy Roberts and Bradley Triffitt got the team off to a flyer with an opening day victory over Armley and played important roles throughout.

Adam Turner, Bradley Triffitt, Andy Jones and Philip Longstaff enjoyed some sunny weather on this occasion as well as taking the match points against eventual champions St Chads.

We were indebted to treasurer Mick Abel for stepping in one weekend when numbers were low and Mick helped contribute to our win over Horsforth.

Newcomer Chris McDonald produced the game of his life away at Armley when with a draw looking the likely result, he and Andy Jones produced some last gasp heroics to secure maximum points.

Ollie Boyes Park on his return from university helped the team take a very useful point away at DL Leeds first team when Brad and Adam also took a set off Yorkshire county over 35 star Peter Hall.

Brad, Alastair, Andy R and Andy J were the chaps to get us over the line on a lovely sunny morning in Roundhay. A narrow 5-3 success with the match going down to the wire enabled Wetherby to celebrate promotion to the giddy heights of Division 2 next year. Congratulations to all the players and non playing captain Mike Triffitt for all his hard work in producing strong teams each week to meet the demands of tough encounters.
