 OPEN DAY

Our LTA affiliated coach Dan Stickland will be running our open day at Willaston Tennis Club on Saturday 28th March 2026

Please can you spread the word to non-members about our upcoming Open Day. Anyone (Children or Adults)  interested in just giving it a go in a friendly, encouraging and no obligations session would be so welcome. Also, any members who didn’t really get out on the courts last year and want a bit of a boost into the spring and summer season would really benefit from Dans enthusiastic, motivating and experienced coaching style. We will be including 6 free coaching sessions again this year with the membership fee so it would be a great opportunity to meet his team and see how your game could be helped or re-kindle something you may have enjoyed but not played since school.

14:00 – Ages 11-16

15:00 – Adults

Please use the form below to indicate which slot you or your children will be attending so that Dan will have a better understanding of numbers attending and better plan for each session.

Introduction

We are a friendly, welcoming and affordable club set in the heart of this beautiful village on the Wirral Peninsular. We welcome new members of all ages and abilities, from absolute beginners, to more experienced players.

The club has two all-weather courts and is situated within the Johnston Recreation Grounds near Willaston Primary School. Membership is great value with, for example, Family Membership (for up to two adults and two children) being only £120 per year. Please see the Membership page for full details of all types of membership.

The emphasis of the club is on social tennis but we also run a slightly more competitive 'Winter League' for adult members. In 2024 we welcomed several vet students from nearby Leahurst into the League for that season. After graduating, one commented "I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and the Winter Tennis League. Us girls had such a blast playing tennis with you all and I'm really sad that it isn't part of our lives anymore! Thank you for welcoming us so readily and being so kind and patient to us."

Our social programme includes Family Fun days, organised outings to local tournaments and a Christmas dinner. Our current organised playing opportunities include:

  • Tuesday Morning (at 10am for about an hour). Informal and very mixed group - WhatsApp group admin: Gwenda, email 163edge@gmail.com
  • Winter League, Sunday (at 9am with matches usually finishing well before 11am). Competitive, but having fun is paramount. League runs between October and April but informal tennis continues through the summer - League coordinator: Jonathan, email jonathan.foulkes@ntlworld.com
  • Walking Tennis, Thursday (at 10am for about an hour). A gentler game with special rules and balls. Very suitable for those wishing to continue or return to playing tennis, e.g. after injury. However some participants also play the ‘normal’ game but enjoy the new dimensions that walking tennis adds. For more information on Walking Tennis, see https://walkingtennis.org - WhatsApp group administrator: Gill, email gillbode55@gmail.com
  • Tennis Group, generally weekday evenings while daylight permits. Puts players of all abilities and interests in touch with one another to allow games to be arranged as convenient - WhatsApp group administrator: Will, email william_djs@hotmail.com

We enjoy the services of a highly experienced LTA-qualified coach, Dan Stickland, who runs our extensive programme of coaching for all levels. Our initial coaching programme at the start of each season is free to members. Please see the Coaching page for more details.

In 2019, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the re-opening of the village tennis courts after these were abandoned to nature decades before. As part of our celebrations, we became affiliated to the LTA as a Registered Venue with all the benefits that gives our members.
