CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS RULES 2026

1. It is all players' joint responsibility to arrange matches. Please advise Andrew or Sam (details below) if your contact number is incorrect.

2. Players may enter as many categories as they wish, but they will be expected to play all their finals matches on the Finals Day regardless of how many matches that entails. Playing in more than two finals matches will be very challenging so if you think you may reach many finals, give serious thought as to the number of categories you enter.

3. Please book court time using the online Booking System. An exception is for the Supervets Category where matches may be played during daytime midweek Club Sessions.

4. Four good quality balls to be used – players should agree between themselves who should provide these but note that balls are generally available in the clubhouse but as they are Club Session balls, they may be good but will not be new.

5. In the Doubles, once the 1st round match has been played, no pairings may be changed so please check your partner’s availability to play between now and Finals Day.

6. MEN’S SINGLES, WOMEN’S SINGLES and all DOUBLES matches (with the exception of the Supervets category) to be best of three sets – the first two to have a tie-break at 6-6 (2 points clear), the last to be a Match Tie Break (first to 10 points, 2 clear)

7. VETERANS (Aged 60 or over at any point during 2026) – first two sets tie-break at 6-6 (first to 7 points, 2 clear). The third set to be a Match Tie Break (first to 10 points with two clear points, i.e. 10-8, 12-10 etc.)

8. SUPERVETS (aged 70 or over at any point during 2026) – One set only with a tie break if required (first to 7 points, 2 clear), to decide winners. Please enter “Partner Wanted” as pairings will be determined by a draw and will be mixed gender as far as participating numbers allow.

9. Please write up the results on the draw sheets in the clubhouse as soon as your match is finished. Please add the full score in this format: 6-4, 6-3. If there is a tie break please add the score for this as well, e.g. 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 10-7. There is no requirement to submit results online or via email.

10. Matches must be played by the dates shown on the draw sheets. Please remember that the play by dates are the latest possible days to get your matches played. To be fair to ALL players, there will be no extensions given to any player(s) for any reason, regardless of weather, availability, holidays etc. so be sure to get your matches booked in and played well before the deadline date to avoid your match being decided by a coin toss.

Please do not leave it to the last minute AND DON’T BE FOOLED INTO BELIEVING YOUR GAME WILL IMPROVE BY DELAYING A MATCH FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS!!

If you win a match, you don’t have to wait for each round to be completed. If you have an opponent to play, then please arrange your match as soon as possible

11. All FINALS of the Championships are scheduled to be played on Saturday 5th September 2026 from 9.00am. An American Tournament for those not involved in a final will be held on the two vacant courts, depending on numbers. As a result of previous last minute unavailability notifications which devalue the importance of Finals Day, we intend all finals matches this year to be played on Sat 5th September.

Should a player realise prior to playing a semi-final match, that he/she will be unable to play in the final of that event, the semi-final match is not to be played but conceded to the opponent or played with the unavailable player(s) retiring at match point to concede the match.

In the event of Finals unavailability being discovered by the winner after playing a semi-final, the beaten semi-finalist (having been eliminated from the Competition) is not permitted to take the winner’s place in the final. A final will therefore NOT take place for that category.

12. Please enjoy the competition and keep to our Club reputation of fairness at all times!
