CAPTAINS GUIDE
See sub pages above for the LTA League Manual and shortcut guides plus an important notice about affiliation of match players
Please note: if the contact details for the club are incorrect on the LTA site, this can only be amended on the club’s own LTA Venue Registration Site. Any amendments to individual captains/ Club administrator details must be made by the LTA using their contact page: LTA
SUMMER SEASON 2025
The ADL league is run using online software provided by the LTA. The web site is at:
From this season onwards, captains will log in using their own personal LTA account.
Click on the relevant League/ Knockout Cup and then click on the team that you captain.
You will have automatic Result Entry rights which will allow you to enter results, and reschedule postponed matches. Some clubs prefer the Fixtures Secretaries to do all of this.
At the beginning of the season
- Check that your own contact details are correctly shown on your team page so that opponents can contact you. You must be logged in to do this.
- Check that your Fixtures Secretary has entered all your matches online and the dates and start time agree with your records.
- Check that all the players you plan to use in your squad have affiliated themselves to your club. This is particularly important for those players who have only joined recently. You can check this by going into one of your matches as if you are going to enter a result, and search for a player under your club.
To affiliate, players must go onto the LTA website: LTA login is top right. If they don’t already have an account they should click Join Us. They should not create a new account if they think they may already have one. If they already have an account click Sign In/ Log In. Then click on the purple head (top right), click on account settings, then account details, then venues and choose the venue(s) you wish to affiliate to. Players can be affiliated to more than one club.
Players also need to login to their LTA account and complete the “competition eligibility form” before they are eligible to play in a match. Until then their gender will show as “u” and you will be unable to add them into a match.
Before each match
Look up the contact details for the opposing captain. To do this you will need to login, then click on My Team, choose your fixture and click on the opposing team name. You will then see all their contact details. Now contact their captain and confirm that you agree on the time and location of the match. Agree what refreshments will be offered. Agree plans for bad weather. It should usually be the home captain who makes contact a few days/ one week before.
Immediately after the match
Both captains should write down the scores and take a picture of the scorecard for their records. Make sure that people have told you their name exactly as it is shown in the LTA software and that it is spelt right on the scorecard.
The captain of the winning team has the responsibility for entering the results online. If the result is a draw then the Home captain is responsible. This should be done within 72 hours of the match.
To enter the results
Login under your personal LTA account, click on the relevant league/ Knockout Cup and then your team. PLEASE NOTE THAT MATCHES DO NOT APPEAR IN DATE ORDER (this has been requested of the LTA)
Click on the green pencil to the right of the match.
First select your players. Click on the arrow in the player box. If this is the first match no names will appear. You will need to use the ‘Add new player’ option until the player has played in at least one match for that team (team NOT club, so if you play for multiple teams you have to be added to each team).
That player MUST be linked to the club for which they have played. You can use the first 3 letters of either christian or surname name, or the LTA number. Try to use letters you are confident about so for ‘Sue Brown’ use ‘Brow’ as it is likely that Sue will be registered as Susan. Use your initiative if you find something that is very close to what has been written on the card. If there was an Unknown Player, the home captain should chase that person to do the LTA affiliation. If the Unknown player was on the losing side then the winning captain should ask the losing captain to do the chasing and put a note on the match- see below. Once the unknown player has affiliated, the captain will not be able to enter that player; this will need to be done by the Club Admin (Fixtures Secretary) or the Divisional Secretary.
Please note that the LTA have currently issued this statement: The ability to submit a match result with an unknown player will soon be removed. It will become mandatory for all players participating in an LTA League to be an LTA member affiliated to a venue.
If happy with the results click “Save”. Remember that 2 points are awarded for a set won and one for a drawn set. There is no longer the option to “confirm” a match but the losing captain is still responsible for checking the result and for correct players.
Please note that captains are unable to amend results once they have been saved so please be careful. Any mistakes/ changes will need to be added to Edit Announcement (see below), for the Divisional Secretary to deal with.
UNUSUAL SCORES:
Click on Score Status to enter the following:
Walkover, Retired and Not Played (eg in a one pair match)
If a team did not show up, please note that this is covered under Match Status - in green at the top
POSTPONED MATCHES
To enter this option, please click on Match Status, in green at the top.
A note should be added to the match within 72 hours with the reason for the postponement. Please see rule 16 on the ADTL website.
TO ADD A NOTE TO THE MATCH
You will need to go back to the list of matches (you can click your Division heading above the score).
This time click on the match itself (rather than the green pencil).
You will see a blue section with Edit Announcement - this is where you can add any note. Don’t forget to click Save.
Please do this to communicate with the other captain/ divisional secretary. This should be done with details of any Unknown Players, reasons for a match not finishing, reasons for a match being postponed, reasons for a Walkover or anything else we need to know.
TO RESCHEDULE A MATCH
Click on the match itself (not the green pencil).
You will see a grey cog, top right hand side. Click on this and then reschedule match.
