Team Update

This week saw both Men's and Ladies teams in action. The men took on Brooke at home for the second week in a row and the Ladies travelled to Cromer, then played at home to Easton the following day.

The Men's team remained unchanged from last week's win over Brooke B. The Brooke team however had a couple of changes and results in the first matches were very tight. Jason and Robbie won 12-4, with Anton and Mark starting slower and eventually losing 4-12.

All to play for in the second set of matches. Jason and Robbie took on the stronger pair from Brooke and managed to keep their noses ahead throughout, eventually winning 9-7. Anton and Mark found their stride and secured a 10-6 win giving Blofield an overall win 35-29. This result secures play in Div 4 again next year and whilst mathematically it is possible to secure promotion, this would require virtually all remaining results going our way. The next mens match is on Thursday 1 August away to Reepham.

The ladies team needed good results from their last three matches to continue their target of staying in Division 3 for next year. This week saw them play on two consecutive nights, Tuesday and Wednesday. Ros, Dawn, Sandra O and Karen set out to sunny Cromer on Tuesday looking for a win, but knew the challenge was daunting. Ros and Karen won their first pairing 11-5 with Dawn and Sandra O losing 7-9. The second pairings resulted in Ros and Karen losing 6-10 with Dawn and Sandra O drawing 8-8.The final result was a draw 32-32, suggesting the Blofield ladies needed to win on Wednesday against Easton at home and ideally a win against Acle on 30 July to stay up.

Wednesday saw the weather good enough for Easton to agree to play outside...... Dawn and Sandra A played the number 1 pair, winning 9-7, with Karen and Anne drawing 8-8 against the number 2 pair. The second matches played out with Dawn and Sandra winning 14-2, Sandra playing some excellent 'put away' shots at the net. After Karen and Anne had secured five games against the number one pair, an overall win was confirmed, but they still marched on to an 8-8 draw. Final result was a win for Blofield 39-25.

Overall a good week for Blofield Tennis - well done eveyone!
