Saturday saw 20 players compete for this years Basey Fisher Cup. The cup was presented by George 'Did' Basey Fisher and traditionally tea afterwards was celebrated with a Strawberries - this year was no diferent with Straweberries brought in for the post competition tea.
Dawn Stocker provided the guidance for players to start the tournament at 2pm. With four matches played at a time, it gave some respite for four players to rest from the extreme heat, so everyone had one round rest, during the five round tournament. Winners went up a court and split, losers went down a court and split and all played with new partners. Dawn then inserted players who had rested back into the next rounds so everyone played four rounds of eight games, changing ends after four games.
To conclude the competition, the finalists were determined by adding up all games won by each player with the top scoring players going through to a short set final. Imogen Osborn played with Matt Jennings against Dawn Stocker and Mark Risley in the final. Imogen and Matt were the eventual winners in a great 4-1 match.
Club Chair, Karen Isbill presented the trophy to Matt and Imogen (who had last won the cup in 2016). The afternoon concluded with a lovely tea and a raffle which Pete Payne won and selected the bottle of his choice.
The next tournament is the Singles Club Championships on 4 August and is open to all senior members (and junior members with the appropriate playing standard) - this marks the return of the Club championships after being absent for a number of years.
