Safeguarding in Tennis
The LTA strive to ensure that all children, young people and adults at risk are safeguarded from abuse and have an enjoyable tennis experience. Everyone who is involved in tennis has a shared responsibility to support this by promoting the welfare of all children, young people and adults at risk. Buckden Tennis Club is guided by the LTA on safeguarding matters.
The LTA's Safe to Play campaign includes some great resources for parents and players, including an informative video, top tips, advice including how to stay safe online and key contacts. See https://www.safetoplaytennis.co.uk/
Welfare Officer
The Welfare Officer is responsible for promoting safeguarding within their venue and working with others to ensure a safe and inclusive environment is achieved. Victoria Clipsham is our Welfare Officer. Victoria lives very close to the club and can be contacted very easily. Her role at the club includes receiving and acting on any reported child (and adult) protection concerns, whether they come from members of the club or members of the public. Her role is to ensure that the safeguarding policy is implemented and promoted and that the club follows best practice in safeguarding.
Victoria, as well as the coaching staff from Over and In, have valid Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, previously CRB) checks.
Nikki Barry is the club's Deputy Welfare Officer. We have a Deputy to ensure that safeguarding issues can be dealt with at all times. Nikki is also local to the club and is a member of our committee.
Victoria and Nikki can be contacted directly on welfare.buckdentennisclub@gmail.com
Safeguarding Training for Committees
In March 2022 our committee completed the recommended Safeguarding Training for Committees. The training consisted of watching a short video with discussion at key points during the video, facilitated by our Welfare Officer. The video provides a useful introduction to Safeguarding in tennis and can be accessed at this link.
Buckden Tennis Club is committed to supporting the right of adults at risk to be protected from abuse and to making sure all staff and volunteers work together and act promptly when dealing with allegations or suspicions of abuse.
Diversity and inclusion policy
The aim of this policy is to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and with respect and that members, non members and visiting teams are not denied access to Buckden Tennis Club because of a discriminatory reason.
This document sets out how to help prevent bullying from happening to all children and adults at risk. It also sets out how to make sure bullying is stopped as soon as possible if it does happen and that those involved receive the support they need. It also provides information to all staff, volunteers, children and their families about what should be done to prevent and deal with bullying.

Photography and Filming Policy
This policy protects children who take part in the Club's activities and events, specifically those where photographs and videos may be taken. It ensures that we operate in line with our values and within the law when creating, using and sharing photographs/videos of children.
The aim of the Safe Recruitment policy is to help deter people who might abuse children or adults at risk from applying for paid or voluntary roles where they will have access to those vulnerable groups.
For parents/guardians of junior members wishing to play team tennis please read the junior policy and complete the consent form and return it to buckdentennisclub@gmail.com.
