Want to be part of making tennis safe and accessible for everyone? The LTA is launching a new initiative promoting safeguarding and welfare at tennis clubs around the country. Following a successful pilot last year, the Young Person’s Welfare Ambassador (YPWA) programme is now being rolled out across all levels of the grassroots game.
YPWAs are young people aged 14-24 who will be actively involved in clubs, helping to raise awareness of safeguarding issues, gathering feedback from young people to enable them to have a greater say in safeguarding discussions and providing an important link between the club committee and young people. A suitable candidate must obviously be aged between 14-24 and must have consent from their parent/carer if aged 17 or under. If aged 16 or over, they will require a volunteer DBS check (obtainable through the LTA).
This is the first time in British sport a National Governing Body has actively involved young people in a programme of this nature. It represents an ideal opportunity for a young person to play an important role in promoting safeguarding at our club. Applications close on the 30th November.
