Our ladies second team achieved an honourable draw in their final Sussex League match of the winter season against Southdown’s fourth team.

The weather was bright, if a tad windy, when the first rubbers began. First pair, Sarah Keegan and Jane Hugo, took on Southdown’s second pair and ran away with a straightforward victory 6-1, 6-1. Second pair Gemma Bridger and Rachel Wilcox faced much sterner opposition against Southdown’s first pair, and although they lost 6-2, 6-3, a number of games went to deuce.

In the second rubber match ups, Sarah and Jane defeated Southdown’s first pair with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 score, as aGemma and Rachel took on Southdown’s second pair and became involved in a marathon. With the game score swinging one way and then the other, when it came to the final showdown of a championship tie-break, Southdown forged ahead to take the win 10-2. Nevertheless, a gallant effort from our ladies.
