Ladies Sussex League first team update

The ladies Sussex league first team are also unbeaten in their first two matches, with draws against both Hailsham 1 and Rye 1.

In the May match against Hailsham, Gillian Luis-Ravelo and Sarah Keegan beat both opposing pairs in straight sets. Joanna Chopping (second team captain) and Jean Guest who kindly played up from the second team, fought hard against both pairs, but home advantage AstroTurf courts took their toll.

In the second match last Sunday the first team were home to Rye 1. Gillian Luis-Ravelo and Sarah Keegan again paired up to beat both opposing pairs in straight sets for the loss of just three games in total. Joanna Chopping, was this time joined by Liz Ritchie who also kindly agreed to play up from the second team. Despite struggling against the strong first pair, they had a brilliant game against Rye's second pair, fighting back from 5-0 down in the first set, narrowly losing the tie-break 7-5; and fought back again in the second set from 4-0 down and eventually lost 6-3.

Next up is Maresfield at home on 4th July.

Thank you to my partner Sarah and especially Jo, Jean and Liz for kindly agreeing to play up from the second team
