The ladies first team travelled to Amherst in Hastings early yesterday morning for their rescheduled and final match of the winter season.
On a beautiful spring day, our ladies took to Amherst's clay courts against their second team. In the first rubber, Gill Luis-Ravelo and Jo Chopping played the second pair while Ros Parker and Leesha Daniells played the first pair. Gill and Jo took a while to settle on the clay, which was playing fairly slowly, and although there were plenty of deuce games, could not get the measure or lie of the court as they lost 6-1, 6-2 to a beatable pair. Ros and Leesha suffered a similar fate, as they also lost 6-1, 6-2 against Amherst's mother and daughter first pair.
In the reverse rubber, Gill and Jo faired much better and were ahead a couple of times in the first set but succumbed 6-3, 6-1 - however, Ros and Leesha who got to grips with the surface were also helped by a number of errors from one of their opponents to take a convincing 6-1, 6-2 win.
