Last Sunday, the ladies second team hosted Crowborough 4 in the penultimate match of their Summer Sussex League campaign, claiming an excellent 4-0 win.
Blessed with brilliant blue skies, Mel Gurnee and Gemma Bridger took on Crowborough's first pair in the first rubber and achieved a convincing 6-3 6-0 win. Sarah Keegan and Alex Twiddy played Crowborough's second pair, and although there were some competitive rallies, took an excellent 6-0 6-0 victory.
In the reverse rubbers, Sarah and Alex achieved a straight forward 6-3 6-0 win, while Mel and Gemma struggled slightly with the heat in the first set, losing 6-4, but gathered momentum in the second to take the set 6-2. On a mission for a clean sweep they then ran away in the championship tie-break to claim victory 10-2.
This result moves the team up to second in their division with one match to play.
