How to choose the correct racket
We see a lot of children with the wrong sized rackets at sessions. Parents have been well intentioned, usually buying an expensive racket that children can grow into.
Whilst every child is unique, it’s important to take the time to match each child with the appropriate racket to help ensure they stay injury free and enjoy their tennis. Having said that, here are some basic guidelines to work out which tennis racket will be a great fit.
We are fortunate enough to have our very own ProShop. Therefore, if you have any racket queries or are interested in purchasing a racket for your child, please contact Jamie Walters on 07938850558 OR info@kinetictennis.co.uk. Alternatively, visit our own ProShop website (Coming soon).
Racket Sizing Chart
The following chart outlines the approximate racket length that is appropriate for kids of a certain age and height, this is a good start, my quick rule of thumb is that racket should not touch the ground when held by the child’s side.
Age | Height | Racket Size |
4 or below | 102cm or shorter | 19 inches |
4-5 years | 102-112cm | 21 inches |
6-8 years | 113-124cm | 23 inches |
9-10 years | 125-140cm | 25 inches |
10 or older | 140cm+ | 26/27 inches |
Helpful Tip
As a parent, it can also be beneficial to listen and watch for signs from your child while they’re playing tennis. If they’re out hitting on the court and you see them shaking their wrist or arm between points out of discomfort or they complain about a sore wrist or arm, then it might be worth taking another look at their racket size.
