Back To Tennis

Given today's announcement (28/05/2020) from the First Minister and Tennis Scotland we will be returning to coaching from the 29th of May

By its very nature, tennis is an activity whereby close person to person contact can be avoided, with the Government saying tennis is a good example of an activity that can be undertaken in a way compliant with social distancing restrictions.

Based on the LTA’s and Tennis Scotland’s discussions with Government regarding the easing of some lockdown restrictions they have developed a set of practical guidelines for coaches to follow so that tennis can be played in Scotland during lockdown, where the local environment allows.

These guidelines outline adaptations so that tennis activity can be enjoyed in a way that is in line with Government advice and helps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They include measures to limit hand to shared surface contact and minimise unnecessary interactions with others.

Coaches and coaching providers across the country are all different and operate in different local contexts. Making an assessment of whether a safe exercise environment can be provided depends on a range of factors, which apply differently at each venue. It is the responsibility of each tennis provider, coach and facility to make that assessment based on their local environment.

Coaching Activity

  • All activity will be consistent with government guidance regarding travel, social distance and hygiene.
  • Maximum of one session per day for separate households. This means we will only be taking a maximum of seven clients until guidance suggests otherwise, unless a second person in the same household partakes in a session on that same day in which we can take on more.
  • This includes; new tennis balls for each lesson (or each individual client), adaptations to drills and feedback/instruction, court positioning on said feedback/instruction and the accepting of only local clients depending on what location you choose to have your lesson from – currently either Joppa or The Meadows.
  • For players that don’t have their own racquet we unfortunately will not be allowing racquet sharing/hiring for the foreseeable future.
  • MPC will liaise with linked clubs to ensure the highest levels of health and safety standards are met to ensure all participants and members are protected  and can play without worry.
  • During phase one of the easing of restrictions we will be offering only one-to-one (both for adult and junior tennis) based coaching with this being adapted as we gradually work through the guidelines provided by the Scottish Government and Tennis Scotland/LTA.
  • With that said, we’re expecting a bit of a social surge in tennis uptake so when booking a lesson please contact us in advance so we can guarantee your court booking early.
  • For junior lessons , please try and book at least a week in advance so we can make additional ball orders.
  • For any junior lessons, we please ask that only one parent/guardian is in attendance if watching the session from a distance.
  • Clubhouses in phase one are currently not open for use, all locations.
  • Lastly, the obvious pointers; please wash your hands before and after your session with the sanitiser provided, avoid touching your face, collect tennis balls only on your racquet where needed, avoid touching court equipment and if you show any symptoms of the virus then please stay home and your session will be refunded.

We hope this helps and makes you feel more secure about picking up a racquet and getting “back to tennis”. For any enquiries and bookings please contact MPC using the “Contact” tab and we can organise your session in advance. We will only be taking on a certain amount of clients at the moment but will look to take on more as we work through the phases listed yesterday by the Scottish Government.

In addition to all of this, we will be knocking 10% off all sessions (must be a member of location). Please note that we will only be accepting online payment until guidance suggests otherwise.
