Winner, LTA Scotland Park Venue of the Year 2025

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Newlands Park Community Tennis Centre (NPCTC) won the Park Venue of the Year 2025 at last night's Tennis Scotland awards. Its a wonderful way to recognise the hard work of our volunteers and the enthusiasm of everyone that uses our wonderful courts.

NPCTC opened in 2023, on courts that had been neglected for many years until a group of volunteers succeeded in obtaining a renovation grant from the LTA Tennis Foundation’s Park Tennis Project. Managed and operated entirely by volunteers, all fees are invested in the facilities to ensure the long term sustainability of this community asset. In 2025, it will install floodlights to further improve round year access

In only its second year of operation, it has attracted 400 annual family memberships, 100 adult and junior memberships and over 300 regular pay to play players, equating to an 85% increase in numbers from its first year. From a recent survey completed by 101 members, 63% said they had not been playing tennis regularly prior to joining NPCTC, and 81% agreed that it was making them more physically active.

NPCTC focuses on providing an accessible gateway into tennis for players of all ages. 30% of bookable court time is free and it was one of the first parks tennis venues in the UK to develop free parks tennis sessions. Its coaching programme includes free classes for juniors, innovative social tennis sessions (upwards of 24 players over four courts) and beginners/improvers classes for players to get on the club pathway.  The Newlands Park tournaments, introduced in 2024, are designed to be a first step for players new to the sport

to play competitively.

NPCTC works closely with local schools and organisations to encourage and support participation by all and to help grow the game in our neighbourhood. Its coach has worked specifically with minority groups to make tennis more welcoming, working with Neighbourhood Networks (community living group for disabled people), Glasgow ANSAR (sports group working with young people from ethnically diverse backgrounds) and Weegie Whackers (LGBTQ tennis group).
