The Quorn Family Tennis Cup at York Tennis Club saw 16 families take part in 2 competitions.
The first was the Under 7 child and parent doubles competition. The event saw Lara Sharp make an impressive debut in competiton, playing with dad, Gareth.
Will Parry and dad Toby showed some great touches and technique and Harry Skidmore again showed great potential for teh future and ever improving stroke play with impressive performances with dad, Tom. Sam Nellist the youngest competitor at 6 showed great competitive spirit to finest in an impressive bronze medal position. The final featured the irrepresible Dylan Lloyd, champion in his last 2 events at the club, with his dad Stuart against rising star Ignacio playing with dad Nick (sporting the new YTC club kit). After some great rallies Ignacio and Nick triumphed taking the title.
The Under 10 competition saw 2 groups of 5 families take part.
'Quorn sausages group'
This group saw a great debut performance from Lucy and Lorna Eyre, as well as tournament veteran Sophie Johnson and her dad Matthew, a rising tennis force in the adult 'Start Tennis' class on Saturday mornings. Oliver Hosenian showed he is a force to be reckoned with playing with dad Naz and finishing 3rd in the group. The group was won by Sam and Rupert Dewhirst edging out Stefan and David Martin by a single point, with both pairs going through to the semis.
'Quorn Burger Group'
This group saw an impressive return to competition for Amelia Edwards and mum Suzanne, with a good debut in the competition from Ffion Lloyd playing with dad Stuart who had a busy morning competing in both U7 and U10 events with his children. Another fantastic debut performance saw Finn and Chris Cook play some great tennis and be unfortunate to narrowly miss out on the semis finishing 3rd. A great performance from Charlie and Dermot Skelly saw them finish second between dominant group winners Daniel and Richard Cranidge.
Semi's
The first semi final saw doubles partners from Team Challenge become opponents as Stefan and dad David Martin took on Daniel and dad Richard Cranidge. After some great rallies Dan and Richard ran out 10-5 winners.
The second semi final saw tennis buddies and doubles partners Sam Dewhirst and Charlie Skelly become opponents, with their respective dads Rupert and Dermot. It was a close fought contest that could have gone either way and ultimately saw Charlie and Dermot emerge victorious 10-8 and go through to the final.
Final
A great final match saw the Cranidge team triumph 10-5 despite some tenancious play from team Skelly. We wish Daniel and Richard well as they go on to compete in the regional event at Ilkley.
It was great to see so many people take part and the quality of the tennis reflect the level of enthusiasm on the day.

If people are interested in playing in their own garden / patio the Oypla nets we used on court 5 were new and are just £29.99 for a 5 metre net (the size we used), and red balls are available from IT Sports. The Oypla nets also double up as a badmington and volleyball nets.
Thank you to everyone that helped with the event, Bradley for running the U10 competition so well and to Richard Cranidge, Nick Lloyd and Maite Lloyd-Moliner for their help putting the nets away and tidying up.
A great competition and lots to look forward to for the 2018 season!
