Quorn Family Tennis Cup - Sunday 19 January 2020
Under 7 and Family Member Doubles
The Under 7 event saw great tournament debut performances from Andrey Zueviskiy teaming up with dad Vlad as well as Jay Grundy with mum Helen. After some close matches, and having lost 2 tie-breaks on sudden death points Isaac Falgate and dad Andy came in a close second to eventual winners Erin and Ruth Greaney. Congratulations to Erin on a first tournament win.
Under 10 and Family Member Doubles
The Under 10 Event saw some impressive topspin from Joseph Greaney assisted with some effective slice from dad Paul. Wilfred Buckham competed well with dad Phil to finish with an impressive total. The teams of Nathan and mum Sharon as well as Ignacio Lloyd-Moliner with dad Nick fought valliantly to finish in a tie for second place. The winners and Quorn Champions Ansh Johar and dad Puneet were dominant througout and claimed and impressive win.
Open Age Family Doubles
Teams were split into 2 groups:
Federer Group
The Federer group saw impressive performances from Douglas Brewer and brother Lawrence as well as Nathan Falgate with mum Sharon. Ben Nightingale played some great tennis with mum Alex but just missed out on group qualification. Daniel Cranidge and dad Richard finished with a perfect score as group winners and Oly Eckert made a very impressive tournament debut at the club with his big serving dad Paul, finishing as runners up in the group.
Nadal Group
The Nadal group saw Sophie Johnson and brother Thomas team up to win their first match impressively but just miss out on qualification and Joshua Balog and dad Marek play some great tennis claiming an impressive win but again just missing out on qualification. John Megone and dad Chris claimed top spot in the group with a very tightly fought win over group runners up David Lloyd-Moliner and dad Nick.
Semi-Finals
The first semi-final saw David Lloyd-Moliner and dad Nick, have some chances but in the end finish narrowly beaten by Daniel and Richard Cranidge.
The second semi-final saw Oly and Paul Eckert edge out John and Chris Megone.
Final
The final was tight with Oly Eckert showing some good court craft and dad Paul hitting and serving hard. The eventual winners with consistent serving and volleying were Daniel and Richard Cranidge.
A big thank you to my daughter Arabella and wife Fiona for their help in running the tournament.
It was great to see so many people take part in all of the above events particularly in the middle of January. We look forward to running more events over the coming weeks and months and the standard of play and enthusiasm for the game all looks good for a great 2020 season.
