LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

In a landmark achievement, Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club has experienced its most successful season to date in the LTA Tennis Shropshire Summer Doubles League 2025. The club's teams delivered impressive results across multiple divisions.

Men’s Teams:

The Men's First Team - pictured above -  secured their first-ever Premier Division title, winning all fixtures in a dominant display of skill and teamwork. This success highlights the club’s growing strength and depth, built on the foundations laid by former Mens’ Team captains such as Eustace Johnson.

Meanwhile, the Second, Third and Fourth Teams each claimed their respective division titles, marking an unprecedented sweep for the club and showcasing widespread talent.

The Fifth Team also enjoyed a stellar run, earning promotion after winning 7 of 9 matches. Additionally, the Sixth and Seventh Teams stabilised their standings, providing vital competitive opportunities and player development.

The SLTC extends thanks to all players, the Captains - Mike, Jack, Andrew, Peter, Stuart, Steve and Andrew - and supporters, with special recognition for Andrew Armstrong, whose leadership of Monday night men’s sessions has been instrumental in building teamwork and competitive play across this section of the club.

Ladies’ Teams:

The SLTC Ladies’ Teams wrapped up the season with impressive results, seeing three out of five teams earning promotion. Notably, this year marked a first, with juniors representing the club in competitive play, highlighting the club's growing youth involvement.

The First Team showcased resilience, securing the top spot in the Premier Division despite early-season injuries, thanks in part to standout performances from Verity, Susie, and Albina, who stepped in to secure crucial wins.

Meanwhile, the Second Team faced challenges after being promoted to the First Division last year, dealing with player injuries that left them short-handed throughout the season. Despite tough competition and hard-fought matches, they will move down to the Second Division but aim to bounce back to the First Division in 2026.

The Third Team had an outstanding, undefeated season, earning promotion to the First Division without suffering a single defeat. The Fourth Team maintained a strong performance, securing their place again in the Fourth Division for summer 2026. The Fifth Team has achieved a remarkable promotion from the Fifth to the Fourth Division amid an exciting summer filled with nail-biting matches.

The club is also proud to have Jess, a junior player, on board this season and looks forward to more youth players representing the club in 2026.

Congratulations to all teams and players for their hard work and success. Special thanks to the Captains - Cheryl, Sarah, Jane, Jenny, and JoJo - for their excellent leadership throughout the season!

We look forward to the awards evening at the Tennis Shropshire AGM which will take place at the end of January. We will confirm an exact date and location in due course, which is sure to be a celebration of our Club's achievements this year, and everyone is warmly welcome to come along.
