Julien Lawes (Coach)

Julien Lawes, Coach

Julien is a Coach at Weymouth Lawn Tennis Club and his friendly, calm, welcoming nature and enthusiasm for sport, fitness and exercise is second to none. He is well liked and respected by all the adult and juniors and members he coaches at the club.

He began his coaching career at the club in 2004 after he successfully completed his Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Sports Development and Fitness through Weymouth College.

He gained his Level 1 Development Coach Award in 2006. It was quickly followed by his regional LTA Club Coach award in 2007 for his work in developing juniors. Since then, he has gained his Level 2 and 3 qualifications and is now a very experienced and highly respected LTA Level 4 licensed coach.

He regularly attends new courses to keep up-to-date and ensure every player is able to reach their full potential. Julien has helped to develop a host of players over the years, some the juniors he has coached are now or aiming to embark on tennis scholarships in various US universities with a view to taking up tennis professionally.

Over the years, Julien has also worked for Wey Valley School as Community Tennis Coach visiting local primary schools delivering tennis as part of the National Curriculum and introducing players to Weymouth Tennis Club. He still visits schools today although this is outside of the Wey Valley School programme.

After 17 years as Head Coach, Julien has recently decided to take sabbatical and is taking a step back from his full-time coaching activities at the club. He remains dedicated to helping his group of performance juniors in reaching their goals, and he is also committed to supporting the club’s other coaching programmes. These will now be run by Matt Eaton, the new Head Coach and Ryan Bissett, who will continue to ensure that  there is something for everyone age 4 to 60+, from complete beginners to high performance players. Their aims are the same as Julien’s - to provide first-class tuition: educating players in safe, efficient and fun sessions to help them improve their game.
