Finals Day 2022

Saturday 3rd September saw the Finals Day of the Oundle Club Championships 2022. A good sized crowd enjoyed the new balcony, the traditional BBQ and ten tennis finals.

The day began with Spencer Coates retaining his Men’s Singles crown with victory over Steve Hart. The Ladies Doubles went to Carol Hallewell and Jo Porter, winning their second title as a pair. Last year's champion Camilla Sherwin was runner up teaming with Cynthia Fairley.

Frequent opponents over recent years, Mark Hallewell and David Reed this time combined forces to claim the Men’s Doubles. Another new combination in Paul Brown and Darren Gudgeon were finalists.

In the match of the day Jo Porter overcame her doubles partner Carol Hallewell in an epic three set encounter. A record equaling 5th Ladies Singles title for Jo. Carol bounced straight back to win a 4th consecutive Mixed Doubles title alongside husband Mark. Opponents David Robinson and Jo Hood played in their first main draw final.

In plate competition David Barton and a very busy Jo Hood both claimed titles in singles as well as doubles. David Robinson and Jan Butlin were their respective partners. Finally in the Mixed Doubles the surprise duo of debutant Kurt Middleton and Cynthia Fairley took home the silverware.
