NEW SCORING PROPOSAL
The voting has now closed and we can announce that the tally was 20 votes in favour and 6 against.
Therefore by majority, the summer 2026 season will use the new scoring system. We do not anticipate any issues but, if we get feedback that it hasn’t worked for whatever reason, it is simple to change again.
If you need a reminder of how it will work, details can be found on our Welcome Page
CAPTAINS UPDATES
A plea 🙏
We are more than happy to help with anything, but please ensure that you have used the captains guide first:
If there’s anything you find confusing, we are happy to take feedback to try and make it clearer.
Postponements
Thank you to all those captains who sportingly allowed matches to be postponed for non weather reasons in the first half of the season. We realise that there were also quite a few due to rain so, for the second half of the season, we ask all captains to make a real effort to get matches played on the date set. As ever, we encourage players to “play up” from lower teams, and, if necessary one pair can be played.
Another reminder that Rule 28 has been updated. There is no longer a limit for the number of one pair matches a team can play. Please note that notice must be given to the opposition who can then either, also field one pair (no extra sets will be awarded in this case) or may offer a postponement if both teams agree.
You do not need to be logged in to see a note on any match, so you will be able to see how many matches a team has already had to postpone. If you are unsure whether to allow a postponement or take a walkover, please feel free to ask us as we have a lot of experience in all the various scenarios and also what others in the same division may have done.
Adding a Note to a Match:
Details of how to do this can be found in the Captains Guide. We need a note if a match is postponed with the reason, for unknown players, for walkovers with the circumstances, for anything that may have occurred during the match or for anything else you may need to note. Please date your note.
Rule 27:
Because of the rain, we have added scenario 3 to the exceptions:
27). If a match cannot be completed due to the state of the court, weather or failing light, then a new date should be arranged and a match replayed in its entirety, unless, either side has won a minimum of five sets, in which case that team will be deemed the winner, and any un-played sets will be declared void. Exceptions to this can be:
- If a match is stopped at 3-3 or 2-2 and both captains agree to a draw.
- If play is stopped in the final set and the score is 4-3 or 3-4 and both captains agree to enter the score as it stands, or both captains could alternatively agree to a draw.
- If play is stopped after the first two rubbers (four sets) and both captains agree to enter the score as it stands rather than replay the match.
