We’re sad to say that Abergavenny Tennis Club was badly flooded during Storm Claudia and it has damaged the courts. The committee now face a vital clean up and repair operation on the courts. Please do not try to play on the courts until they have been repaired and declared safe to use. We will keep you regularly updated on our progress.
Thank you for your patience.
Update on ATC Flood Damage - Nov 20, 2025
The committee are continuing to work as hard and as fast as possible to develop a recovery plan following the devastating flood event last weekend.
Since our last update we have met with South Wales Sports Grounds, our insurance company’s appointed loss adjuster, and the Monmouthshire County Council Flood Engineer, and we have further meetings planned over the coming days with Tennis Wales, Fosse Contracts, and Tiger Turf. We’ve also reached out to the MCC Flood Support team.
The preliminary feedback we’ve had from SWSG is that, as well as the amount of silt that has been deposited in/on the court surfaces themselves, we should expect that the silt influx will have compromised the drainage of the asphalt sub-surface too.
That means, at the very least, the court surfaces will have to be lifted and sub-surfaces deep-cleaned before we can consider either reusing the current court surfaces (after deep-cleaning) and having fresh sand in-fill and clay applied – or having the surfaces completely renewed. Without doing that there’s a significant risk that any new sand infill and clay that we apply (which in itself could amount to more than £10,000) would just be swept away in the next major rain event.
We’ll share another update next week after our meetings with Fosse Contracts and Tiger Turf.
In the meantime, we appreciate your understanding and patience and want to thank all those who have made offers to help.
