Etiquette - Good Manners & Fair Play

Court Bookings

Courts can be booked up to 2 weeks in advance through the club’s website. If you’ve booked a court and subsequently cannot play at that time please cancel ASAP and if the booking is within the next 72 hours put a message on the BLTC Adults Whatsapp group to flag that the court is now free.

Ball Machine

The ball machine must only be used with the unpressurised balls which are stored next to the machine. No other balls should be put into the machine. The ball machine must not be used in the rain or when the courts are still wet. Please put the machine on charge when you have finished with it. If possible use the machine on courts 1 or 4 to minimise disruption to other player’s matches.

Court Conduct

Enjoy yourself on the court. You may not win every time-make sure your behaviour allows your fellow players to enjoy their game, too. Keep your language polite and controlled. Do not walk behind a court while a point is in progress. If a club match is taking place you must use the clubhouse to access courts 3 and 4, do not walk behind courts 1 and 2.

Balls

Balls are stored on the green rack in the club house for use but please be considerate and leave enough balls for players on other courts.

Line Calls

If you're not sure whether your opponent's shot is in or out then you should assume it is in.

Make sure you call "out" when the ball is clearly out. You can also use hand signal of a raised finger if the ball is out but still make sure you verbalise the call (NB a fiat hand with the palm down determines an "in" ball). If the ball lands on the line this is "in" and so you say nothing and play on.
