Club tournament

We run a yearly Club Tournament that normally takes place between July and September. All members are invited to join in one or multiple categories as listed below (see below for draws and results of 2024):

• Men's Singles
• Ladies Singles
• Men's Open Doubles *
• Ladies Open Doubles *
• Mixed Open Doubles *
• Mixed Handicap Doubles **
• Men's Plate 

* Open Doubles - competitors arrange and agree their partners themselves.
** Mixed Handicap Doubles - the tournament organisers choose competitors' partners.

Members are allowed to enter a maximum of three categories.

Teams

Bassett Tennis Club has several teams playing in local summer and winter leagues, offering opportunities for a range of standards of competative play. If you wish to be considered for matchplay please contact a committee member, and they will introduce you to a Team Captain.  

Team players must be paid-up members before playing in their first match and may not represent two different clubs in the same league. Match fees are expected to be paid on the day of the match.

Match fees are £2 per player (£1.00: Student / Junior).

We generally enter 4 mens and 1-2 ladies team in the Winter Leagues and in the Summer Leagues we will be entering 2 mixed teams in the Apsley as well as 2 mens and 1 ladies in the Hants & IOW, as well as a Men's 45+ team. Since 2018 Bassett have also entered the Aegon Team Tennis League with a Men's and a Women's team.

Please check the notice board regularly, as match dates may change due to inclement weather.

Internal Box Leagues

The Internal Box Leagues were set up in the autumn of 2023,  for players of all standards to have an opportunity of playing competitive matches with other members of the club. It has been, and continues to be a great success. Thanks to Aiden F for setting this up and continuing its maintenance.

Play Your Way To Wimbledon

This has now happened, and the following text left here for future reference.

Sunday 5th May is you and your doubles partner's chance to Play Your Way To Wimbledon!

The tournament was good fun last year, so we're holding one again. The winners will represent BLTC in the area finals (22-23 June 2024). The winners from the area finals go on to the national finals to be held at Wimbledon (11-17 August 2024).

Details:

• 5th May, 9:30 at BLTC for a 10am start of the tournament
• It is for all members with an ITF World Tennis Number of 23-40 (40=compete beginner)
• Two separate events: an adult ladies doubles and an adult mens doubles tournament
• Format to be decided depending on number of entries, but we'll choose one where every pair gets to play multiple times
• Open to members only (so don't forget to renew your membership if you haven't done so already!)
• Registration needs to be in pairs. Feel free to use the BLTC Adult WhatsApp chat to look for a partner
• Registration closes Saturday evening, 4th May
• Register via the sign-up lists on the bar in the clubhouse, or email bassetttennis@gmail.com with the names of both players, their LTA numbers and contact email and phone number.

The aim is a fun, competitive day of tennis! Only one pair can win per category, but all can play and have a good day of tennis.
