SOCIAL & TENNIS EVENTS
We have organised a social diary for the year, it would be lovely to see you at all/some of the events, new members would be particularly welcome. If anyone has any suggestions please email Elizabeth Laurent at [email protected]
More details of each event will follow in due course:
Thai evening at the club
SATURDAY 14th AUGUST
Our very own Malinee Duckworth is cooking her native Thai, homestyle, street food for us over 3 courses to be accompanied by authentic Thai entertainment. It is in aid of her favourite charity based in Phuket – the people there have lost their entire livelihood as a result of COVID-19. It will be a tremendous evening taking us to another place, far away!
Tickets are £20 and can be purchased from Elizabeth Laurent. Simply email [email protected]
Ladies tournament followed by BBQ
THURSDAY 19th AUGUST, STARTS 10am
Sheila Burton and Jenny Poulter will be organising the ladies tournament again this year. £5 per person to cover the cost of prizes, balls, tea/coffee and also drinks for the scorekeepers! The format will likely be the same as usual. i.e. mixed ability pairs, round robin matches within a league, individuals with most points play a final round. Dave and Nigel will be master scorekeepers and court planners. Bring your own lunch. The tennis will be followed by a barbecue style meal in the clubhouse around 5pm assuming Covid restrictions have been relaxed by then. All lady members and juniors with colours welcome - especially if you'd like to be considered for one of the teams next season.
If you'd like to play, please contact Jenny indicating if you'd like to stay for the meal afterwards. Once we have an idea of numbers we will issue more details. Any questions please contact Sheila or Jenny.

NEXT DATES TO BE ADVISED
To help keep running costs of the club down we welcome all volunteers. We all 'muck in' and you can meet old and new friends. Whether you're a keen D.I.Y.er or a Professional Bodger we have small jobs for everyone, such as weeding, painting and hedge trimming (to name but a few) in order to keep the Clubhouse and Grounds in a good state of repair.
If you are able to come along and help please could you contact David Paine.
Please bring with you your own work gloves. We are particularly interested in anyone who has a tow bar as one of the jobs will be emptying the trailer at the back of the clubhouse to the nearest bottle bank
Each round lasts about 2 months, and each player gets to play all other players in the same division, up to 5 matches per round. At the end of the round, the 2 players who come top in each division gain promotion to the division above, while the 2 players who come last move down to the division below. The box league is a friendly competition intended to encourage members to enjoy singles matches. There are no fees or prizes, and while players are under no obligation to play all their matches, we encourage them to play as many as possible.
