League Teams
Match Practice and Team Selection
Match practice for the Summer League takes place in April, around three to four weeks before the first match of the season.
Higher teams practise on Mondays and lower teams on Tuesdays, with both sessions starting at 6:30pm. These sessions are used to prepare players for league matches and help with team selection for the season.
During this period, players who want to play for the teams will be required to fill in the ‘Birkdale LTC Player Form’ before team selection. This form covers areas such as the player’s availability and team preference for the coming season.
Team captains will meet a week before the first match to review all forms and allocate players to their ‘base teams’. Allocations will be based on certain areas: strength, availability and match practice attendance.
The finalised team lists will be released the week before the first match of the season.
The lists will be reviewed and republished after weeks 3, 6 and 10.
All players will recieve a digital 'Birkdale LTC Player Handbook' which will include important information for that season including contact details, fixtures, venue locations ect...
10 Golden Rules for Players (Birkdale LTC)
- Respond promptly to team captain texts.
- Know the dates and times of fixtures.
- Avoid pulling out of matches after committing, especially at short notice!
- Inform the captain of your availability for the entire season or as far in advance as you can.
- Respect the selection committee and team captain’s decisions. You are playing for the club, not yourself.
- If the weather is bad on match day, DO NOT contact your captain about cancellation. They will reach out to you once a decision is made (usually 30/45 minutes prior to match start).
- Arrive at the fixture 10 minutes before the scheduled start time, as time posted is when the match begins.
- Once your match is finished, you MUST record the result on the scorecard and return the balls to the captain at the end of the night.
- When playing at home, offer your opponents refreshments in between and after matches.
- 10.After you've finished your match, stay until all matches finish and support your teammates.
