Court Safety

  • Pickleball is generally a very safe game and attracts players of all age groups.  We have several more mature members who have giving up playing tennis but have been able to return to the courts to play pickleball.
  • Our outdoor court has been specifically designed to allow water to run off and not create puddles.  With the right tennis footwear most people feel safe playing in light rain.  However much of pickleball is played as a recreational sport and players should understand their own limitations and play to a level where they feel comfortable within a margin of their own safety.
  • On a warm day it is surprising how dehydrated a player can get when playing on an outdoor court.  If you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated so please bring your own water with you and take a break to have a drink at regular intervals
  • Ironically, most people who wear safety googles have started to do so only after they have been hit in the eye by a ball.  One of the exciting game plays in pickleball is to have four players standing near the net trying to find a way of hitting the ball past their opponent.  In this situation it is very easy to mishit a ball and, if you are very unlucky, for it to fly-up and hit their opponent in the face. It hurts, and there have been reports in the press about visits to A&E after an accident. Please consider wearing sports safety goggles.
  • Our club welcomes everyone, regardless of background or ability.  We will make our best efforts to accommodate any disability and respect your input into how we can improve for the future.
