Winter League

Sunday saw the Blofield Mixed Team take on East Anglia B Team in their penultimate Div 4 Norwich Winter Tennis League match. This was the return match at Blofield, the team having suffered a crushing loss to the East Anglia team on the away leg - one of only two losses thus far this winter. All to play for, as prior to Sunday, East Anglia, Blofield and Harleston all had the potential to win promotion to Division 3.

A lovely warm sunny day, with little wind meant the playing conditions were perfect. The Blofield team of Barnaby Taylor, Robbie Clarke, Karen Isbill and Sandra Atkins started in great form. In the first rubber the number one pair, Barnaby and Karen, took control and rapidly marched towards a 2-0 sets victory. A great match to watch with Barnaby succesfully completing 3 hotdogs and winning each point as a resut.

On the other court the result was not self evident as the rallies were long and from the pavillion balcony it was dificult to gauge who was winning. When the players eventually finished and returned to the pavillion, Robbie and Sandra reported a 2-0 sets victory.

The second rubber saw some fantastic tennis in the mens doubles match, with power and precision from players on both sides. Blofield were a bit too strong for the visitors and won 2-0 sets. Court 5 again produced a lengthy match, with Karen and Sandra enduring long games and sets. Eventually dogged determination saw the home pair secure a 2-0 win giving a final result of Blofield 8-0 winners.

This 3 hour match leaves one more match to play against Lowestoft to firmly cement promotion to Division 3.

Well done Team Blofield.
