2025 Championships - Finals Day

There was a great turnout of competitors and supporters for the finals of our 2025 Club Championship on Sunday 31 August.

"The best way to sum up the event would be to say that the weather was variable but the tennis was consistently excellent," writes Chair Mark Smith.

"First up was the Men's Singles final, which pitted Seb Wyatt against Alex Peyton. It was a hard-fought match, but Seb prevailed in the end. Next was the Ladies' Doubles final. Yoko Peyton and Gwyneth Simmons took on Debbie Jagla and Vicky Palos. This was another exciting match, from which Debbie and Vicky emerged as winners. The third and last match of the day was the Mixed Doubles final, in which Suzanne van Heyningen and Richard Hardy played against Gwyneth Simmons and Alex Peyton. This was a suspense-filled contest which extended to three sets. The momentum shifted from one team to the other as rapidly as the weather changed from rain to sunshine. The two teams played on, regardless of the weather conditions, until Suzanne and Richard finally emerged victorious.  The final of the Men's Doubles will take place on a date to be arranged.  The Ladies' Singles wasn't played this year as there was only one entry.

"Congratulations to the winners, and many thanks to all those who contributed to making the day a success, whether as competitors, helpers, or spectators. There was some delicious food and plenty to drink. Thank you to those who provided these refreshments. Special thanks go to Alex, who not only organised the entire event, but was responsible for purchasing and putting up the colourful new bunting as well!"
