Bubwith Tennis Club Hosts Successful Charity Tennis-a-Thon Event, raising over £500 for Young Lives vs Cancer and £300 for the Club.

Bubwith Tennis Club is thrilled to announce the overwhelming success of its recent charity Tennis-a-Thon held on Saturday, 24 August 2024. The event, which attracted over 60 participants and spectators, successfully raised more than £500 for Young Lives vs Cancer, a cancer charity in the UK with a focus on children, young people and their families.

The day was filled with exciting tennis matches, bringing together members of Bubwith, Riccall, and Goole Tennis Clubs as well as non-members in the spirit of competition and community.  Highlights of the event included a fast-paced handicap tournament seeing 15 matches being played in an hour with Evie Price and Andy Pratt being crowned the winners.

Handicap Tournament

The days was capped off by a thrilling exhibition match between Bubwith’s Men’s 1st Team captain, Rob Jackson playing with Yorkshire team player Nicola Mooney, against his usual doubles partner Mark Harris playing with Yorkshire LTA President, Karen Mitchell.  The audience were treated a game of fast and skilful tennis with everyone on the edge of their seats.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated and contributed to this event,” said Lizanne Southworth, Co-Organiser. “The support we received from the local tennis clubs, wider community, our sponsors, and the players has been overwhelming.  It is fantastic to see how we can come together to make a difference.”

In addition to the on-court action, the event featured a raffle, with items generously donated by local businesses and individuals. Attendees also enjoyed delicious food and cake lovingly made by volunteers.

The success of the charity tennis event would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors, and the hard work of our volunteers.

Bubwith Tennis Club looks forward to hosting more events in the future that bring the community together for worthy causes.
