The Club

Our Motto:  Tennis is a lifetime sport that can be enjoyed by people of almost any age!

Calne Tennis Club is a great place to play whatever your ability. Whether you are looking to compete in one of our teams, play socially at club sessions, play amongst friends or other members or to simply just improve your game with our coaching team, we can offer something for you. So if you are a regular, not played since school or never picked up a racket please come and join us.

Court Access

We have a combination lock on Court 1 entry gate, this is necessary to protect our courts from misuse or vandalism.

The four-digit numbers will be given to members on payment of membership fee.  Members should not share the combination(s) with non-members. If you are last to leave the club, please make sure both court gates are locked, even if you only used one of the gates and the combination spun.

Facilities

The 4 macadam courts are all floodlit enabling them to be used by members throughout the year.

Calne Tennis Club is an integral part of Beversbrook Sports Facility and shares the site with football, cricket, archery and other sports.  Members have access to the facilities in Beversbrook pavilion, changing rooms, toilets and cafe/bar within their opening times.

Members have access to the clubhouse situated beside the courts where you will find balls, a ball machine, club information, storage and a small kitchen area. Please use the clubhouse to socialize, and especially during league matches, social sessions and tournaments. If you are last to leave the courts, or if those left on court do not want to use the clubhouse, then please lock it and put the key back in the keysafe when you leave and spin the combination.

Coaching

Calne Tennis Club has a coaching programme for juniors and adults run by a LTA Level 3 Accredited coach - see coaching tab for details of courses being run.

Our policy is that you must be a member to attend group or individual coaching or pay an additional premium for each coaching session.

Court Usage

Members must book a court before playing. This is to facilitate measurement of court utilisation and help members to avoid the disappointment of turning up to play ad hoc and finding that there is no court available.

During term time, the junior coaching programme takes place on courts 3 and 4. Currently the junior programme covers Wednesday afternoon and evening but will extend to weekends and other weekday evenings when possible.

League matches  are played on courts 1 and 2. The Club's home league matches will be played from 6.30 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the summer and from 1.30pm Sunday and 6.30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays in the winter.

Courts will be 'block booked' by the committee for home league matches, coaching, social tennis, tournaments and other organised events.

Floodlight tokens

Floodlight tokens can be purchased for £2 per token (half hour floodlights for 2 courts) from Beversbrook staff (please have correct money with you as they cannot provide change) or by contacting Derek Warnett (07793 424902). Floodlight tokens for home league matches are provided directly by the club free of charge. Please note that Beversbrook staff will not issue free tokens under any circumstances. If you turn up to play and someone else has already paid for the lights on an adjacent court then you should offer to share the cost with them. All those who attend social tennis are expected to contribute to the cost of the floodlights for the duration of the session; it is not acceptable to 'promise to pay next time'.

Please note that, when the blue light starts flashing on the light post, you MUST put another token in within 5 minutes if you wish to cointinue playing.  If the lights do go out before you put your next token in, you will have to wait approx 10 minutes in the dark before the lights come back on again!

Tennis Balls

Members are welcome to use the tennis balls in the clubhouse. New balls are provided by the club for home league matches and tournaments and, on completion, are added to the balls available for members' use. If you come across balls that are unsuitable for play then please dispose of them in the box provided in the clubhouse.

Ball Machine

Members are welcome to the ball machine, and the 'Kollect-a-Ball' ball-collector which are stored in the clubhouse. The ball machine is a great way to practise your shots. Please book the ball machine at the same time as you make your court booking. Don't forget to plug in and switch on the charger after use so that it is available for the next user. Note that you should get approximately 1 hour use per 4 hour charge. Junior members may only use the machine under the continuous supervision of an adult.
