Varsity 2023 Preview

Varsity week is here! One of the most anticipated events of the year is back at Cyncoed Campus for the first time since 2019, as Cardiff Met take on the University of Bath in a huge contest, where 23 sports teams will compete over the span of 10 hours on Wednesday 29th March.

The tennis matches get underway at 12pm at the Tennis Centre with both the men’s and women’s teams in action, so make sure you are there on time to catch all the action!

There will be 9 matches in total, with 2 singles matches and 2 doubles matches for each team, then the exciting prospect of a mixed doubles contest. To add to the excitement, these matches are one set shootouts, where the first to 8 games wins!

The men’s team lineup is stacked, with team captain Alex Hyman joined by Evan Kennedy, Maian Minnaar, Harry Lear, James Mumford, and Will Sherlock.

Donning the maroon colours for the women’s team are Amy Wright, Chloe Efford, Disha Gaba, and Amber Khan.

There has been fighting talk from the Archers already, with women’s captain Amy Wright stating: “This varsity is only going to end one way, Game Set Met”, and the talking is sure to continue on court.

The crowd for the tennis matches at Bath Uni last year was exceptional, so let’s go one better this year and pack out the Tennis Centre, and show our Bath counterparts a proper atmosphere!
