Women’s First Team Awarded Cardiff Met’s Student Union Team of the Week

By Herbie Powell-Gray

Cardiff Met Women’s 1s made it two wins in two weeks this Wednesday, backing up last week’s 5-1 victory over Southampton with another good performance to defeat Exeter 3’s by a 4-2 scoreline.

Chloe Efford and Amy Wright were involved in a battle during the first doubles match of the day, eventually coming out on top with a hard-fought 7-6 6-4 win to take the point.

On the other court, Disha Gaba and Josie Culliford played in a similar encounter that went all the way, although Exeter took the 6-2 3-6 10-5 victory to leave both teams level on points after the doubles rubbers.

Despite the tough doubles matches, the Archers asserted their dominance during the singles, with Gaba comfortably winning 6-1 6-1, and Efford similarly cruising to a straight sets win. Culliford secured the fourth point and the win for Met with a 6-2 7-6 victory, while Exeter got a late consolation point as Amy Wright lost her match.

The result moves the Women’s 1s up to 3rd in the Western Tier 1, with their next fixture being an away trip to Southampton next Wednesday.

The Women’s 2s were also in action, playing a friendly match at Cyncoed Campus against Bath Uni during the afternoon. The 6-strong squad consisted of Amber Khan, Anna Saunders, Emma Lawton, Jade Megahey, Juliette Plennevaux and Darcy Rimmer.
