Some Common Sense Child Protection Advice

Incidents

  1. Children are young people under the age of 18 years.
  2.  Colinton Tennis Club takes seriously the responsibility to keep everyone who uses the club facilities safe, particularly children and young people. However, this is a responsibility that rests with everyone within the club including parents/guardians, coaches and children and young people themselves.
  3. It is important to recognise, that while the club will always look to minimise risk, it can never be totally eliminated.
  4. It is important that we all recognise that everyone has the right to have fun in a safe manner and not be open to abuse, harm or bullying. Abuse can be emotional or physical, neglect or even sexual harm and involve young people as perpetrators as well as victims.
  5. The club organises coaching for children and young people. Such coaches are recruited by the club, in conjunction with the East of Scotland Lawn Tennis Association to ensure that they are appropriately vetted and suitably qualified and cleared to work in their chosen field through Disclosure Scotland.
  6. This Policy should be read in conjunction with the LTA Code of Conduct for all those working with children.
  7. If you are a parent or guardian please ensure that your child is aware that they are expected to behave in a responsible manner whilst at the club which includes having respect for other club users (See Code of Conduct).
  8. The club is not a child-care facility and if “dropping off” children for coaching it is your responsibility to ensure you collect them at the end of the session. Other children/siblings should not be left unattended at the club and it is your responsibility to ensure they are safe.
  9. There are occasions when children and young people will have access to the club courts without club supervision. Please be aware of this and ensure that your child knows how to react in the event of a mishap arising.
  10. The Club organises events from time to time each of which will be risk assessed and managed appropriately.
  11. In the event of a child protection matter arising or being suspected it must be reported to the Club Child Protection Officer (Jill Simson) or in his absence the Club Captain. Jill Simpson can be contacted via Email Jill
  12. Any matters will be dealt with discreetly and in a professional manner.
