Doubles Event Jan to Mar 2024

The group stages of our current doubles event has almost completed with all finals been contested and only a few matches left to play. Todate there have been over 50 matches played and had involved 88 players of all standards. Well done all.

Doubles Matchplay #12 & #13 - 24th Sep 2023

Double header of competitive doubles tennis at the club tonight. Two separate draws of 8 pairs was hotly contested with all getting 3 matches each. In the first draw, congratulations to Alan Mclardie and Stuart McInnes as they defeated Jamie Hughes and Mark Robinson in the final. And congratulations also to the victors of the 2nd draw, Pat Harvey and Elizabeth MacKenzie, with their win over Mike Lynch and Keith Scott. Big thanks to all 32 players involved, in being part of a great night of tennis at the club.

Doubles Matchplay #11 - 7th May 2023

Tonight we had the 2nd social doubles event to celebrate the start of the annual charity singles competition. Again loads of great tennis on show as 8 pairs of mens doubles played out a compass draw. Congratulations to Paul and Andrew & Mark and Darren who reached the final, with Mark and Darren crowned champions. Well done to all players.

Doubles Matchplay #10 - 30th Apr 2023

Great to see all the courts in the main hall busy tonight with a great wee social doubles competition, that followed the draw being done for the annual Charity singles event. All 8 pairs got 4 matches each and there was some great tennis and fun on display. The final was between Nic and Caroline vs Jude and Rachael, with pre tournie favourites Nic and Caroline winning in 2 sets. Well done to all and big thanks to all players for making it a great night.

Doubles Matchplay #9 - 9th Oct 2022

Fab doubles tournament tonight and great seeing the indoor courts busy on a Sunday evening. Great quality from all 8 pairs and some real close matches. Well done to Mark and Aimee for winning their group and reaching the final. However congratulations to Caroline and Douglas for winning all their matches. Thanks again to everyone that played.

Doubles Matchplay #8 - 2nd Oct 2022

Fantastic wee doubles tournament tonight with 6 pairs all playing against each other. Over 2 hours of almost non stop tennis. Congratulations to Iain MacDonald and Alan McLardie who came out on top, winning 4 and drawing 1 match. Well done lads.

Doubles Matchplay #7 - 27th Mar 2022

We also had a doubles competition to round off the recent singles box league, with some of the players playing their first ever competitive doubles match. Another fantastic event, full of good quality and fun. Well done to Mark Hone and Mike Lynch defeating Larry Conway and Aniket Santini in the final.

Doubles Matchplay #6 - 27th Feb 2022

This event included players from box league divisions 3 and 4 and was in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust, helping with the fundraising of a family friend, Jamie Martin. Jamie will be running 5 marathons in memory of Murray Stewart, an excellent young tennis player from Western, who passed away in 2019. Our event has helped to raise £235, so big thanks to all the players for donating. Best wishes Jamie in this very tough challenge and for already raising over £3K.

The event itself was excellent with 2 groups of 4 pairs, and then play-off matches to finish. The winners were David Geddes and Anne Halliday beating Stu Madden and Danny O'Hare in the final.

Doubles Matchplay #5 - 30th Jan 2022

Our 1st doubles event of 2022 featured pairings from Mens teams 2 to 5. Following the same format as previous events,  the final was a highly contested 3 setter with Andrew Dargie and Peter Lagan coming out on top against Ally Duff and Joe Docherty.

Doubles Matchplay #4 - 29th Dec 2021

Our 4th and final matchplay doubles event of 2021 was for the players who played the most box league matches in the previous 6 months. The 8 pairs played 3 fun/competitive matches each and the final ended in a 3 setter, with Harry and Joe defeating Mark and Paul.

Doubles Matchplay #3 - 31st Oct 2021

The 3rd Sunday evening doubles competition was played tonight. Again it proved very popular and was fun and competitive for all 16 players. This final pilot event had a wee twist though. There were both a mens and ladies doubles event before finishing off with a mens vs ladies challenge match for each pair.

Congratulations to the winners, Mark and Joe in the Men's and Aimee and Eileen in the Ladies. Aimee and Eileen being overall champions coming out in top in the 3rd set of the challenge final. Great quality tie break.

Doubles Matchplay #2 - 10th Oct 2021

Another fantastic evening of competitive tennis at the club, this time Men's Doubles. 8 pairs played 3 matches each. Eventual winners were Michael and Jonathan beating David and Terry in 3 setter final. Well done to all 16 players.

Doubles Matchplay #1 - 19th Sep 2021

Great night of tennis at the club as a pilot event was tried out. We had a mixed doubles competition with 8 pairs playing 3 matches each. It was competitive but mainly fun and all 16 players enjoyed the occasion. Good to see all the courts busy and some of the players having a refreshment afterwards in the club room. Well done to all the players but congratulations to Ally Duff and Diane Fung who won an epic final 4-3, 3-4, 10-3 against Robert and Michaela McGowan.
