Collins Cup 2019

The first Summer tournament of the year is always a good occasion.  This year proved no different as we tried a slightly different format.  With 24 entrants split into seeded pairs in order to make thes contest fair the pairs were divided into 2 groups.  

The format was American Doubles, where four games are played with your partner, then four games against.  Points are awarded to each player for the number of games won over the 8.  The pair with the highest combined total at the end of the group matches would share the trophy with the other group winners.

The format is a good equalizer and usually makes for close contests.  Each group was tightly matched but two clear pairs emerged as winners.  From Group 1, Lewis Hawkins and Penny Croutear won and in Group 2, Ian Dunston and Eleni Conidaris came out on top.  Congratulations to both pairs, who took shared possession of the Collins Cup and a box of chocolates each.
