Angela Mortimer
Angela Mortimer was born in Plymouth in April 1932 and went on to become one of Britain's most successful tennis players, winning over 100 titles throughout her career. Angela's first taste of the big time was at the French Open, where she claimed the title in 1955 and reaching the final again the following year. In 1958, Angela won the title in Australia before reaching the final at the All England Club that same summer. But it was in 1961 when Angela hit the heights of her career - reaching the world number 1 spot and lifting the Venus Rosewater Dish at Wimbledon.
Sue Barker
Sue Barker was first talent spotted while playing for her school, the Marist Convent in Paignton. She was then coached by Arthur Roberts, the man behind the success of Angela Mortimer. In 1973 and 1974, Sue won the Exmouth Open in Exmouth, and in 1975, she claimed her first top-level title. In 1976, she went on be crowned champion at Roland Garros, at only 20 years old, and in the spring of 1977, Sue reached a career-high ranking of world no. 3. Besides her singles success, Sue was a prominent player on the doubles circuit and was an important part of team Great Britain for the Fed Cup between 1974 and 1982.
After retiring in 1984, Sue became a prolific feature in British broadcasting, covering all major sports events, including: Wimbledon, Grand National, multiple Summer and Winter Olympics, and BBC's Sports Personality Of The Year.
