Devon played Avon in the first match at the Heron Tennis Centre in Newquay this weekend and were up against a really strong Avon team. We lost the match 6-0 but there were three matches that went to match tiebreaks which we narrowly lost. There were very good performances from Oliver S and Rodrigo.

In the next round Devon faced Cornwall, again there were some tight matches with Oliver R winning his singles against the Cornish number 4. Oliver S won the first set and then hurt his back and soldiered on but lost in MTB. Rodrigo also won the first set, but again hurt his knee and hobbled to an MTB loss. Jacob played well at 1 but was up against it in the form of Matt Upton (Cornwall number 1). We split the doubles, winning the 2nd pair match of Roper and Latu on MTB and narrowly losing 1st pair doubles on MTB. Unfortunately Devon went down 4-2.

The boys worked hard today and I am sure next year with Jacob, Oliver S and Oliver L plus Josh being able to compete in this age group we can build on this year’s performance.
