Devon 10U Girls – Saturday 22nd May at Atlantic Racquet Centre, Bideford.
What a fab day the Devon 10U girls had in North Devon at the fantastic Atlantic Racquet Centre on a lovely warm and sunny day!
We played Cornwall in the first match. The girls were a little nervous to begin with, but soon settled into their matches. Heidi’s match went the full distance and went to a match tie break after they shared the first 2 sets which she narrowly won 11-9! Sophia produced a really solid performance against the Cornish number 3 to give Devon a fantastic 4-2 win overall.
We then played Avon to decide who would win the group. We knew they were going to be strong, so the girls had to fight for every point.
Emma played a tough competitor who struck the ball strongly and with lots of topspin. Emma stuck in there and fought for every point but Avon came through to win that match.
Heidi once again loved her tiebreaks, but unfortunately narrowly missed out on the win this time. Sophia played really well, keeping the ball deep and moving her opponent around in her singles match, but Avon eventually won that one as well. Daisy fought so hard against the Avon number 4 player. Once again, this went down to the tiebreaks, where Devon got so close but just lost out again.
We then went into the doubles. Isabel, partnering Heidi, hit some lovely volleys and worked really well as a team but lost out to Avon’s 2nd pair. Emma and Sophia battled really well against the Avon number 1’s and were denied the win that Devon thoroughly deserved, as they lost another Match Tie break! Avon beat Devon 6-0, despite our best efforts, to become the champions.
The Devon girls loved the team atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Devon Team Captain Hannah said ‘The girls couldn't have done anymore on the courts, and showed the fighting spirit of team Devon the whole day’.
