Goring Tennis Club new partnership with Prime Video a big hit with the girls

GTC teamed up with the nationwide Prime Video initiative to encourage girls to grab a racket and take up tennis for the first time.

The programme is being rolled out throughout the UK and last month it arrived in Goring on Thames!

Specifically designed to help create an environment that allows girls to enjoy and take up tennis without the pressure commonly associated with trying a new sport for the first time, the scheme is making a real impact in local tennis clubs around the UK.

Coaches receive bespoke training from the LTA to enable them to better understand the social and environmental pressure on girls these days so that the tennis training they deliver can meet not only the physical training requirements, but also the psychological needs of girls aged 5-16.

No special equipment is required and girls instantly feel part of the team as they all receive a free kit bag including racket, t-shirt, tennis balls and sweatbands.

Packed with games and activities that help to build skills on court, foster new friendships and increase confidence in everyday life, the course is split into two age groups and provides 6 hours in total of tennis training for beginners.

One parent commented:

“I was amazed to see what a difference doing this course made to my daughter’s confidence levels; playing tennis made her realise that strength is not just physical and that sport can help you to build new friendships through shared goals, mutual support and encouragement and having a great deal of fun in the fresh air!”

Jon Howey, Director of Oxfordshire Tennis and lead tennis professional added:

“The girls did an amazing job on court. They demonstrated great commitment to learning new skills and it was wonderful to see their progress over the course. We are delighted to see an increased uptake from girls who are new to the game getting out on court, building their skills and confidence whilst having such fun!"

Following the success of the course in September, the next sessions are planned for this October half term 28th to 31st October.  Anyone interested in taking part should contact Oxfordshire Tennis to receive booking instructions: info@oxfordshiretennis.co.uk
