At Helsby Tennis Club we are a community and we pull together in times of need.
A much-loved member of our club, Dave Sharpes, was diagnosed with cancer last year and has recently discovered the devastating news it is incurable.
We are all heartbroken by this news. Dave is a treasured club member who not only loves the game but has been a valued member of various teams and the club committee for a number of years. Anyone familiar with Dave will know a man who is fiercely loyal, dedicated and generous. He is the epitome of a family man with his wife Suzanne and three beautiful daughters, Ava, Grace and Hannah.
On 24th May we held a dawn till dusk tennisathon and fabulous evening event supported by hundreds of our members, family and friends and raised a phenomenal amount (£11080) to give Dave and his family the opportunity to go on holiday and make many precious memories plus another £1000 to donate to the urology foundation which specialises in bladder and prostate cancer.
Several members played tennis for the full 14 hours with all ages and abilities taking part throughout the day.
Huge thanks to all who supported this event and made it such a huge success.
