Sunday 8th September dawned clear and sunny, to the great relief of players, organisers and spectators alike. Considering the amount of rainfall in the following weeks we were very fortunate.
The singles final was a good match, won by Josh, a new member this year. What a way to make your mark! The men’s and ladies doubles finals were as competitive as ever. At Henleaze partners are drawn for the doubles events with first team players seeded so they cannot play together. This always leads to some very close matches and no forgone conclusions. The men’s match in particular was very close, right to the final point in the deciding set.
We were fortunate to have an exhibition set played by two juniors between the adult events. Alex and James put on an entertaining game and impressed the crowds with their skills, consistency and speed around the court.
Photos show the winners receiving their prizes from Peter, trustee and a multiple past winner of men’s singles at the club. We hope your tennis elbow recovers quickly Pete and you are back to compete in the tournaments in 2020!
The event was well supported by club members who interspersed supporting and eating a generous tea with the occasional social set on the spare courts! Play continued into the evening long after the presentation of prizes.
Many thanks to those who baked cakes, made sandwiches, provided savoury dishes and did the washing up. Another glorious afternoon at the club, with everyone working together to make it a success.
