Overall Teams Captain

Henley Tennis Club is seeking a dedicated volunteer to take on the exciting role of Overall Teams Captain. This committee position will be the central figure in leading our thriving competitive tennis program.

 

About the Role:

As Overall Teams Captain, you will play a vital role in managing and promoting Henley Tennis Club's league teams. You will be responsible for the overall success of our five existing teams:

  • Four Men's Teams (2 in Berks Leagues and 2 in Oxon Leagues)
  • One Ladies Team (1 in Berks League)

You will also have the opportunity to spearhead the addition of a Mixed Doubles Team for the upcoming winter season.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and support to individual team captains
  • Manage the LTA match fixtures for both the Berks and Oxfordshire Leagues, ensuring smooth scheduling and communication
  • Develop and implement a clear pathway for players transitioning from social tennis to competitive match play
  • Work with other captains to actively recruit new players to expand and strengthen our existing teams
  • Organise, develop, and promote team training and coaching sessions to enhance player skills and team spirit
  • Act as an ambassador for the club, fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all players
  • Attend committee meetings and contribute to strategic discussions

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong passion for tennis and a keen understanding of the competitive game
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with players, coaches, and committee members
  • Proven organisational and leadership abilities
  • Experience working with volunteers and managing teams
  • Familiarity with LTA league structures and match processes (desirable)
