History

Hitchin Tennis Club (HTC) formally known as Hitchin Lawn Tennis Club welcomes you to enjoy the tennis facilities at Bancroft Gardens. You will find our club in the far corner adjacent to the Splash Park (Post code: SG5 1QN).

Affiliated with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), HTC has been run by its volunteers since 1922. Our aim is focusing and promoting the enjoyment of playing tennis in a relaxed and friendly environment.  We are a competitive club and are very proud that our first team won the Datchworth Summer league 2019. At the club we have 3 hard courts, all with floodlights and a clubhouse (equipped with kitchenette, WC, refreshments) for all members to enjoy. We have a  coaching programme with opportunities for children, adult beginners to the more experienced players to play in the spring-autumn months. Visit our coaching pages for more. 

Membership

We offer competitively priced membership packages for those who wish to join with the options to play socially or join in match play in various leagues. Members benefit from discounted coaching, free access to courts and use of floodlights as well as opportunities to play socially or competitively. Throughout the year there are social events on and off the court!

Pay and Play

Why not try before you decide to join the club?

Pay and Play tennis is available to you and is charged at £4.00 per half hour during daylight or £5.50 from dusk, which includes use of the floodlights. You can easily book and pay for your tennis court, all you need to do is create an account. Click here for instructions on how to book a court.  Pay and Play is a fantastic way to get back into the game via our easy online system.

Coaching

Our coach welcomes members & non-members who can play in grouped sessions or you arrange an individual or shared lesson.
