Important Tennis Court Information
PLEASE NOTE – you must type in the * (Asterisk) before the numbers in the code for the gate. The code will not work otherwise. The gate will only open at the time of booking so please do not attempt to access the court at times other than your booking time.
Please be aware Ilminster Town Council may need to close the courts at short notice between August 2023-August 2024 if the outside temperature reaches levels which may result in damage to the courts.
The Tennis Courts
The refurbished tennis courts are ready!
Somerset Council and the LTA have worked in partnership to invest in and refurbish the public tennis courts On the recreation ground in Ilminster. All 4 courts on the recreation ground by the cricket club have been renovated, with investment of £72,000 helping to ensure that high quality facilities are available for the local community.
The project is part of a nationwide investment by the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation, delivered by the LTA, to refurbish public tennis courts across Great Britain, and open up the sport to many more people. Click here for more information
Public tennis courts are vital in providing opportunities for children and adults to get active, delivering significant physical and mental health and wellbeing benefits to participants. Accessible facilities in parks are particularly critical to opening up the sport to those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, women and girls.
About Ilminster Public Tennis Courts
The 4 recently refurbished courts are set within the leafy town of Ilminster which has children's play areas, a skate park, Herne Hill Nature Reserve, the Sustrans cycling route 33, a canal, and a variety of sports clubs. There is a public car park nearby on Wharf Lane, and the public conveniences are on the recreation ground.

Things to do in Ilminster:
Wander around the lovely independent shops and cafes, and treat yourself. There are so many to choose from!
Walk up and around the Herne Hill Nature Reserve and take the children to play in the recreation ground play park.
Visit the Thursday market in the centre of town.

Stop by and admire the architecture of the beautiful Minster and the buildings surrounding it.
