PVG scheme changes April 2026
The following changes come into force on 1st April 2026.
Five year membership
- From 1 April 2026 PVG Scheme membership will last for five years from the date members join. Every five years, renewal will be required. Currently there is no fee for this renewal.
- If you are a PVG Scheme member who joined before 1 April 2026, you do not need to do anything now.
- PVG Updates every 3 years will continue to be administered by Tennis Scotland, however Disclosure Scotland will handle the 5-year PVG membership renewal process. These processes will be handled separately (please see Tennis Requirements section below).
- Online Account: Renewals will be primarily made through your online account, with an offline process in place for anyone who is unable to use our digital service.
- No change to current application process: Continue to submit PVG Scheme applications as normal, including payment of any fees associated with your applications. You should not change how often or when you apply for the PVG Scheme when the five-year membership starts or in preparation for this change.

Tennis requirements
- It will continue to be a requirement in Tennis (Tennis Scotland/LTA) that people in Regulated Roles apply for a PVG Update every 3 years. The current fees for this will still apply (£18 for paid roles and free for volunteers).
Regulated Roles
In 2025 the law changed in Scotland to make it illegal:
- to be in a Regulated Role (eg, Coach, Welfare Officer, Official) without being a member of the PVG Scheme. Click here to join the PVG Scheme - PVG - Application and Self-Declaration form
- to be a member of the PVG Scheme when not in a Regulated Role. You must notify Tennis Scotland as soon as you cease to be in a Regulated Role.
